Spotify Access Issues Reported: Users Encounter Problems
Date: September 29, 2024
Spotify users experienced significant access issues on the morning of September 29, with reports of technical difficulties surging across various platforms.
According to Downdetector, a service that tracks online outages, user error reports began increasing sharply around 10:45 AM ET. By 11 AM, complaints exceeded 9,000, and this number escalated to over 15,000 by 11:35 AM. Many users reported encountering the message “Something went wrong” on the Spotify desktop app, while the mobile applications remained unresponsive for a large number of listeners.
Widespread Issues Across Multiple Regions
Reports of access problems were widespread, with affected users located throughout the United States, Canada, and other countries. While many users took to social media to express their frustrations, the official Spotify Status and Spotify Cares accounts on X (formerly Twitter) did not immediately confirm any major outages.
In response to user complaints, the Spotify Cares team suggested troubleshooting steps, including reinstalling the app, logging out and back in, and restarting devices to resolve access issues.
History of Intermittent Outages
Spotify is not unfamiliar with technical hiccups. In March 2022, users faced login issues where credentials appeared incorrect. Fortunately, those problems were resolved within about an hour and a half.
As of June 2024, Spotify boasts 626 million total monthly active users, reflecting an increase of 11 million, including 246 million Premium subscribers. The platform reported a record quarterly net profit of €274 million, with revenue reaching €3.81 billion—an impressive 20% increase year over year.
